Create a positive workspace
There is the story about the archaeologists who discovered a kernel of wheat seeds in one of the Egyptian pyramids that were over 2000 years old. These seeds were then given to scientists who planted them in nutrient rich soil, kept them at the perfect temperature and exposed them to the right amount of water and light – and, after 2000 years, the seeds grew. I often use this as an example to leaders about the importance of creating a positive workspace for their teams to work in. The same principles hold true, if you create an environment that is conducive to creativity and individual contribution, if you ensure all team members feel supported and directed, if you develop a vision that people are inspired by – then you can expect them to grow and be more productive. Give it a try and see what difference it makes.
